Monticello Photo ShowThis is what the Monticello Arts Initiative has to say about the future of the Monticello Photo Show. "You may know about the Photo Show they've done every spring? The one that supposedly fizzled-out last year? Well, we're happy to report this group is still alive and kicking and the photo show (version 2.0) will take place sometime next year with help from the Arts Initiative. This group is also encouraging photographers of all ages to join their ranks. Come to a meeting for free to see if you want to join. It's really affordable if you do join up and you can learn a TON from the experienced members, some professional photogs, and all the guest speakers they have." Our Monticello Camera Club is still going strong. So, come check out our club and see what we have to offer. The 15th Monticello Photo Show was held on March 17-18, 2018. Yes, this was the last year that we put on our photo show. In this final year, we relocated to the conference room of the Best Western in Monticello MN located at 89 Chelsea Road, Monticello, MN. Our contest was held in cooperation with the Monticello Best Western. They kindly stepped up to offer us the use of their conference room to hold the show. Without their facilities, we could not have put on the 2018 Monticello Photo Show. Please show your appreciation by patronizing their business, as well as our other sponsors listed below. All levels of photographers were welcome to submit their work; from beginners, to students, hobbyists, amateurs and professionals. The Monticello Camera Club provided an opportunity for a variety of community photographers to have their work on display for the general public’s viewing enjoyment, both at the show event and for the weeks following the show within the community. The 12 categories for 2018 were the same as last year and included: Action/Motion, Animals/Mammals, Animals/Other, Architectural/Structural, Botanical, Creative Techniques, Landscape, Macro/Close-up, Natural Landscape, People, Reflections, and Sunrise Sunset & Night. Black & White images could be submitted in any category as long as it met the other requirements for that category. Again this year, entries began on January 1 and were accepted through March 1. You could enter up to 4 images with a limit of 1 per category. Photos are now on display at the following locations:
Thank You! Thanks to all who participated in our annual photo show. Without you and our camera club volunteers who work hard each year to put on the show, we would not have a show. We want to offer special THANKS to our premier business sponsor for 2018 – Monticello Best Western. Without their support, it is likely we couldn't bring this event to you for 2018. Thanks also to Sherburne State Bank and TEAM Chiropractic for hosting our advertising signs! Thanks to Finders Keepers for helping to collect photo entries. Please show them your appreciation as well. And, we want to thank all of YOU, our loyal patrons of this event. Without you, the viewing and voting public, this event would not be successful. We hope to see you at our 2018 show. Thank you to our Monticello Camera Club volunteers who organize this photo show. Without their willingness to pitch in, we couldn't put on this show. Photo Show AdviceQ: Where can I find foam core boards? A: A lot of you have been asking where you can find the foam core for mounting your photos. Walmart carries foam core and it is usually found in their craft area near where tag board can be found (I believe). Other stores that might carry it would be JoAnn Crafts, Michaels, or other craft or photo related stores. Walmart stores are probably the most easily accessible place to find it though and the least expensive. In addition, the dollar store located next to Walmart in Monticello also carries foam core sheets. Q: Where can I find the adhesive foam core boards? A: I found them on-line at Dick Blicks and at Office Depot. There are other sources you can find on-line as well but the two I have provided have stores that can be found in our area as well. You might be able to call their stores and see if they have them there rather than waiting for delivery from their on-line store. Just click on the links provided here to get the information needed. These are just resources that I have found and are not necessarily recommendations, just information. Q: How do I mount a print to foam core? A: Here's a couple of links to help you out. Here's a tutorial on Youtube to do it using spray adhesive. This video tutorial shows how to mount a photo using the self adhesive photo boards. If you have other questions, we'll try to address those here. The Monticello Arts Council put on the Annual Monticello Photo Show from 2004 to 2011 with the help of Design For Print. In 2012, the Monticello Camera Club took over running the photo show. 2011 Monticello Photo Show VideoThe video below was done in 2011 by students at St. Cloud State (Jill Zimmerman and Jason Swanson) for display on the Charter Cable channel in St. Cloud. They did a great job on it. Some of our members are in the video and others have photos displayed in it. Check it out by clicking here or on the image below.
